Youth Sports: Wills swims into two Junior Olympic events

POWAY — Imperial Valley Desert Aquatics swimmer Stevie Wills qualified for the Junior Olympics in two events at the Turkey Diego swim meet here recently.

Wills took seventh in the girls 11-12-year old "A" 50-yard backstroke (33.28 seconds) and the "A" 100 breaststroke (1 minute, 21.11 seconds). Both times qualified her for February's Junior Olympics.

Wills also won in the "B" 200 individual medley (2:36.58) and 100 butterfly (1:14.06).

IVDA's Chase Oliver took 10th in the boys 11-12 "B" 100 breaststroke (1:36.94), 17th in the 200 freestyle (2:43.29) and 21st in the 50 freestyle (32.41).

Oliver also competed at the Inland Coastal Aquatics B/C meet at Palomar College. He took second in the "C" 50 breaststroke (43.88), third in the 50 freestyle (33.09) and third in the 100 individual medley (1:2 6.67).

Also at the Palomar meet, IVDA's Mercedes Gonzalez took 10th in the girls 8-and-under "C" 50 backstroke (1:08.29) and 13th in the 50 freestyle (58.10). IVDA's Kacie Rodvil was 12th in the girls 9-10 "C" 50 freestyle (39.08), 15th in the 50 backstroke (49.05) and 16th in the 50 butterfly (43.95).
