Boys soccer: Wildcats out of Hemet tourney

HEMET — The Brawley Union High School boys soccer team was knocked out of the Hemet tournament, falling 3-1 to Palm Desert here Saturday.

Hector Martinez scored the lone goal for the Wildcats in the loss, which came in the tournament's consolation bracket.

After winning their first game in the tournament, the Wildcats tied Hemet 1-1 on Friday. Brawley lost the game in a shootout 3-2. Jaime Velasquez scored the Wildcats regulation goal. The loss sent Brawley into the consolation bracket where the Wildcats fell to Palm Desert.

Brawley (1-1-1) will return to the pitch at 5 p.m. Thursday at Yuma.

Eagles win at Grossmont

LA MESA — The Southwest High School boys soccer team picked up a win and a tie in the Grossmont tournament here Saturday.

The Eagles tie Francis Parker 2-2 and beat El Cajon Valley 2-0 to advance to the tournament's quarterfinals.

Sergio Rosales and Juan Garcia scored goals against Francis Parker and Jorge Renteria and Joshua Mora scored against El Cajon Valley.


The Eagles (3-1-2) will next take on El Capitan High at 4 p.m. Monday in the tournament's quarterfinal round.
