Humble leads Hornets to seventh place at tourney

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. — Lillia Humble totaled 50 points, 28 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots in four games to lead the Calipatria High girls basketball team to seventh place in the 16-team River Valley tournament here Saturday.

In the seventh-place game against Sedona, Maria Velarde scored 10 points to lead Calipatria to a 31-30 win. Rachel Zajdel scored the game-winning basket for Calipatria. Zajdel finished the tournament with 22 points, 18 steals and six rebounds.

In earlier tournament action, Humble scored 16 and Sophia Perez chipped in 10 points in the Hornets' 43-38 loss to host River Valley.

In its second game, Calipatria routed Palo Verde 54-16, led by Humble's 18 points. Perez and Velarde both added 10 points.

The Hornets lost their third game to Hopi 43-30. Humble scored 12 points.

Calipatria (2-2) will play at Antelope at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
