GLAMIS — Imperial County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested two men for allegedly brandishing a handgun and stealing property here Sunday.

San Diego residents Darryl Speers, 18, and Raymond McGarvy, 19, were booked into county jail on suspicion of possessing stolen property and brandishing a handgun.

Bail was set at 5,000 for both men, who remained in the county jail this morning.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Manuel Avila, a man contacted sheriff's deputies Saturday about 5:30 a.m. stating that two men had just attempted to steal his quad.

The man told deputies two men in a rental truck had taken his quad, placed it into the truck and drove away on Gecko Road.

Avila said the man chased the suspects and caught them a short distance later. When he confronted them, the man told deputies at least one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and pointed it at him.

The suspects then removed the quad from the back of the truck and told the man not to call police. After leaving the quad, the suspects started to drive off, but made a U-turn as if to return.

That's when the victim went for help and called deputies.

Avila said the victim reported he last saw the rental truck heading west on Highway 78.

Deputies later stopped a rental truck fitting the description of the suspects' vehicle. Deputies took Speers and McGarvy into custody. Avila said while no gun was found, deputies did find a motorcycle and generator inside the truck.

Those items had been reported stolen by another party, Avila said.
