Mighty Bulldog band places in Indio parade

INDIO — The Calexico High School Mighty Bulldog Marching Band won awards over the weekend in the 10th annual Tamale Festival parade here.

The drill team placed second behind Coachella Valley High and Calexico drum major Edgar Ramirez, the shield corps and the band all placed first in the parade Saturday.

The competition march was "His Honor" by Henry Fillmore. The music score was 443 of 500, the marching score was 181 of 200 and the showmanship score was 258 of 300. The band's final score, after multiplying by .10, was 88.2 of a possible 100 points.

The band will conclude the marching season at the Calexico Christmas Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday. The band will play "March of the Toys" and "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers." Special routines by the shield corps and drill team will highlight the performance.

The Calexico Unified School District will present the De Anza Junior High School band, the William Moreno Junior High School band and Calexico High School band in the annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 in Varner Gym at Calexico High.
