Brawley police chief could be hired by January

December 04, 2001|By MARIO RENTERÍA, Staff Writer

BRAWLEY — City administrators will be reviewing applications submitted for the police chief position with hopes of making an appointment to the job in January.

Five people applied for the job by Friday's deadline.

Ricardo Valenzuela, city personnel and risk management administrator, said the city could not release the identities of the applicants but did say one prospect is local.

Earlier this year the City Council decided to hire a police chief.

Lt. Henry Graham and Lt. Robert Kuhn were named co-chiefs of the department shortly after Police Chief David Holt retired in 1997.

Kuhn has been on medical leave for several weeks. Graham has said he would apply for the position.

Valenzuela said a committee will be formed to review the applications.

He said the committee might consist of a Brawley City Council member, a community member, someone in management relating to law enforcement and maybe a city manager or administrator from another city.
