Girls' basketball: Southwest falls to Yuma 52-48

YUMA — Playing in its sixth game in seven days, the Southwest High girls basketball team lost 52-48 to Yuma High here Tuesday.

Leading Southwest was Erica Antunez with 24 points, 12 from three-point land. She added eight rebounds.

Jessica Conway had six points and eight rebounds and Denise Rios chipped in six points and seven rebounds for Southwest.

The Eagles (3-3) will play in the Brawley tournament beginning Thursday.

Indio 51, Calexico 47

INDIO — The Calexico High girls basketball team lost 51-47 to Indio High here Tuesday.

Leading Calexico were Karla Chavez with 16 points and Lupe Escobar with 15.

The Bulldogs (0-1) compete in the Brawley tournament beginning Thursday.

Palm Desert 43, Brawley 39

PALM DESERT — Despite a four-point lead at halftime, the Brawley Union High girls basketball team dropped a 43-39 heartbreaker to Palm Desert here Tuesday.

Leading Brawley (2-1) was Reggie Horta with 10 points.

The Wildcats will compete in their own tournament starting Thursday.

Coachella 73, Imperial 41

IMPERIAL — The Imperial High girls basketball team lost for the first time this season, falling 73-41 to Coachella here Tuesday.

Jenny Bowlan led Imperial with 18 points and Rhea Deal chipped in 10 rebounds, nine assists and seven points.

The Tigers (2-1) will compete in the Brawley tournament Thursday.

Cibola 50, Central 17

YUMA — The Central Union High girls basketball team was no match for Cibola High of Yuma, getting blasted 50-17 here Tuesday.

Leading Central (1-2) were Janiece Manuel with eight points and Stephanie Schuler with four.

The Spartans will play in the Brawley tournament starting Thursday.
