Thanks: Vigilantes Christmas Parade kudos

December 10, 2001

Los Vigilantes would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who helped make this year's Los Vigilantes-El Centro Merchant's Christmas Parade a wonderful success.

The theme of the parade was "United We Stand," and was staged as a tribute by our community for the sacrifices made on and after Sept. 11 by our firemen, law enforcement officers and armed forces currently fighting to protect the freedoms that we as Americans all enjoy.

We would especially like to thank Capt. Larry F. Crane, commanding officer of Naval Air Facility El Centro, for serving as honorary grand marshal of the parade. Capt. Crane's presence and parade entries by many Imperial Valley veterans' organizations and police and fire departments were especially appropriate.

The parade was funded by the El Centro Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau and Los Vigilantes, aided with financial contributions from the following division sponsors: Imperial Valley Press, The Golden 1 Credit Union, Sizzler Restaurant, Imperial Irrigation District, Imperial Valley Penny Shopper and Paradise Casino.

Countless hours were spent by El Centro chamber staff in organizing and managing the parade so special thanks are due to: Olivia Ordona, Vicki Zamora, Lisa Favela, Kilah Wilkinson and Cathy Kennerson. The judges for this year's parade entries were: CMDMC(SS) Vince Seay, NAF El Centro, Arnold Preciado, El Centro Kiwanis Club and Charlotte Hester, El Centro Soroptimist Club.

We would also like to thank Tyler-Hart Insurance for allowing the parade to be staged from their office site, Rogers & Rogers Nissan-Toyota and El Centro Motors for providing vehicles for parade dignitaries and announcers, Cactus Sanitation for providing much-needed portable toilets, Sizzler Restaurant for the after-parade fare, Vince Seay and Lisa Liberty for banner guards and the public works and police departments of El Centro for their help with crowd control.

And lastly, a special thank you to Cherrie Alford and Alford Distributing, for providing the antique fire truck used to carry Santa Claus. The mode transportation was especially fitting given the theme of the parade.
