>>50 years ago — Dr. Jack Bostwick of Brawley was re-elected as president of the Imperial County Medical Society at a meeting in Pioneers Memorial Hospital. Dr. Phillip Hodglein of El Centro and Dr. Ernest Brock of Imperial were re-elected vice president and secretary treasurer.

>>40 years ago — The Brawley swimming pool committee has recommended construction of a $190,000 six-lane heated pool with dressing rooms and spectator facilities. The recommendation was made at a meeting of the Brawley Union High School District and Brawley Elementary School boards and the Brawley City Council.

>>30 years ago — Two school Christmas concerts involving a total of 440 students are planned tonight and Tuesday night in the Wilson Junior High School multipurpose room building. Both stat at 7:30 p.m. and are free to the public. Tonight 240 elementary school students will present a concert including beginning strings and beginning band, intermediate strings and intermediate band. Directors are Carolyn Sechrist, string instruments, and Lee Lallier, band.

>>20 years ago — Concrete has been poured and two turbines are ready to be hooked up at the Drop 5 hydro plant five miles east of Calexico on the All-American Canal. Drop 5 is a checkpoint to deliver water to the South Alamo, Ash and New Briar canal systems. Years ago, the government had planned to install turbines. Turbines already are on Drops 2, 3 and 4.
