CALEXICO — Ten people are running in the March election for two seats on the Calexico City Council.

Councilman Javier Alatorre has opted to seek re-election to his seat. Councilman Gilbert Grijalva, who is seeking election to the Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors, will not seek another term on the council.

A third seat on the council could become available depending on the results of another race in the election.

Mayor Victor Carrillo is running for the county Board of Supervisors against District 1 incumbent Tony Tirado.

If Carrillo wins and vacates his seat, the City Council will have to decide whether to hold a special election or appoint a council member.

According to City Clerk Lourdes Cordova, the nine candidates who will be listed on next year's ballot with Allatorre are:

· James Beaver, immigration consultant

· Sylvia Bernal, a Heber Elementary School District librarian

· David DeLeon, a Calexico High School driving instructor

· Henry Legaspi, retired public utility manager; former administrative assistant to the Heffernan Memorial Hospital District board

· Ricardo Ortega, director, Neighborhood House

· David Ouzan, businessman

· Alex Perrone, economic development director; Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program

· Lupita Rios, former executive director of the Calexico Housing Authority

· Carlos Rocha, handyman.
