The Imperial Valley Street Interdiction Team arrested a 21-year-old El Centro resident Monday morning for drug and weapons violations after receiving a tip from a concerned citizen.

A press release from SIT stated Peter Castañon was arrested about 10 a.m. in a residence in the 700 block of South Fifth Street in El Centro. Castañon was arrested for possession and sales of methamphetamine and possession of an illegal weapon.

The press release stated SIT agents obtained a search warrant after receiving information about Castañon allegedly selling methamphetamine.

SIT agents seized a "moderate" amount of packaged methamphetamine, illegal drug paraphernalia and an illegal homemade stabbing-type weapon.

El Centro police officers helped in serving the search warrant. Castañon was arrested without incident.

"The majority of our team's investigations are started when a concerned citizen calls the county's Crime Stopper Tip Line with a narcotic complaint," said Tony Lain, SIT task force commander.

"Our partnership with the community is working great. For a fairly new task force, I think we have done a good job developing the trust and respect of the community as well as developing a great working relationship with nearly all of the local law enforcement agencies," said Lain.

Lain encouraged those wishing to report illegal drug activity to call 339-6333. Callers can remain anonymous and earn a cash reward.

Castañon was being held today in the county jail with bail set at $10,000.
