Girls basketball: Brawley falls to Escondido

SAN DIEGO — The Brawley Union High girls basketball team lost 54-52 to Escondido in the first round of the Kiwanis tournament here Wednesday.

Leading Brawley were Reggie Horta with 19 points and Amy Williams and Kaylin Rubin with 10 points each.

The Wildcats will continue tournament action today as they play Rancho Bernardo.

Torrey Pines 62, Central 27

SAN DIEGO — The Central Union High girls basketball team fell 62-27 to Torrey Pines in the first round of the Kiwanis tournament here Wednesday.

Leading Central were Stephanie Schuler with nine points and Janiece Manuel with 14 rebounds and eight points.

The Spartans will return to tournament action today.

Serra 49, Calexico 21

SAN DIEGO — Serra High had little trouble disposing of the Calexico High girls basketball team in the first round of the Kiwanis tournament here Wednesday beating it 49-21.

Leading Calexico was Kimberly Carrillo with 11 points.

Calexico will be back in tournament action today.

Yuma 58, Holtville 50

YUMA — The Holtville High girls basketball team dropped its fourth game of the year with a 58-50 loss to Yuma High here Wednesday.

Leading Holtville (1-4) were Liz Robinson with 11 points and Cindy and Claudia Lopez with 10 points each.

The Vikings (1-4 overall) will next compete in the Kofa tournament in Yuma beginning Dec. 27.
