offenses during probation sweep

BRAWLEY — Brawley police officers and officers from other agencies arrested three people for drug offenses while doing probation checks here Thursday night.

The Brawley Police Department, along with the county Probation Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, the California Department of Justice and the Imperial Valley Street Interdiction Team did a sweep of Brawley on Thursday night to check individuals on probation.

Brawley police Lt. John Myers said about 35 officers checked probationers Thursday night.

"Our goal is to let the community know that law enforcement is responding to the recent increase in gang activity," said Myers.

Three people were arrested as a result of the sweep: a 17-year-old boy, Albert Valenzuela, 38, of Brawley and another individual whose name was not available.

All three were arrested separately for narcotics-related charges.

Myers said more sweeps will be done during the holidays.
