IVL names all-league football, volleyball team

The Imperial Valley League recently named its all-league teams for volleyball and football.

Brawley Union's Leighan Sudduth was named the volleyball most valuable player. Brawley's Andy Buckner was the offensive MVP for football and Calexico's Raul Ochoa was the defensive MVP.

The first-team offense for football was Palo Verde's Rick Copple, Southwest's Albert Gradillas and Justin Ernest, Calexico's Odin Ayala, Kevin Carvajal and Ralph Hernandez; Brawley's Dominic Aguirre, Mitchell Ruiz, Buckner and Russell Abubo and Central's Anthony Hellum.

The first-team defense was Brawley's Shawn Palacio, Arturo Ayon, Chris Ramirez and Steve Duran; Calexico's Ochoa, Sergio Pesqueria and Aaron Barrios, Southwest's Danny Lopez and Osman Solorio, Palo Verde's David Atiyota and Central's Gabriel Soucier.


The second-team offense was Palo Verde's Ernie Soto, Southwest's Luis Vildosola and J.C. Gil, Calexico's Barrios, Adrian Patron and Manuel Gomez; Brawley's Richard Encinas, Mark Martinez, Brandon Wellcome and Robert Platt.

The second-team defense was Brawley's Bobby Myers, Eric Drew, Aguirre and Adrian Vandiver, Calexico's Vicente Vasquez, Manuel Gomez and John Guckeen, Southwest's Justin Eyre and Chris Gonzalez and Palo Verde's Gabriel Carter.

The first-team volleyball selections were Brawley's Sudduth and Kristin Colace, Southwest's Jessica Conway, Imperial's Andrea Aguirre, Calexico's Melissa Noriega, Central's Janiece Manuel, Holtville's Regan Rothfleisch and Palo Verde's Jennifer Martinez.

The second-team volleyball selections were Brawley's Trisha Fleming, Southwest's Melissa Lerno, Imperial's Lindsay Lugo, Calexico's Mayra Gonzalez, Holtville's Shelly Strahm and Palo Verde's Natalie Delano.
