Wildcats down Holtville 2-0

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High girls soccer team improved to 2-0 in Imperial Valley League play with a 3-0 win over Holtville High here Thursday.

Melissa Carrillo scored the team's first goal off an assist from Natalie Coronado at the 25-minute mark of the first half.

About 15 minutes into the second half, Sara Mendoza scored Brawley's second goal off an assist from Kayla Ortiz.

The Ortiz to Mendoza connection hooked up again at the 30-minute mark to give the Wildcats a 3-0 advantage.

Maria Sarmiento recorded the shutout for Brawley with two saves.

The Wildcats (2-0 IVL) will play an alumni game at noon Monday. Holtville will next play at Southwest in El Centro at 6 p.m. Jan. 8.

Brawley 6, Holtville 1

HOLTVILLE — Arturo Contreras recorded a hat trick to lead the Brawley Union High boys soccer team to a 6-1 Imperial Valley League victory over Holtville High here Thursday.


Along with Contreras' three goals, Carlos Mejia chipped in two and Alfredo Campas added one for Brawley.

The Wildcats (1-1 IVL) will play Sweetwater High in first- round action of the San Diego High tournament at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Holtville (0-1 IVL) will host Southwest High at 6 p.m. Jan. 8.

Yuma 2, Southwest 1

The Southwest High School boys soccer team lost 2-1 to Yuma in El Centro on Thursday.

Juan Garcia scored the Eagles (6-3-3) lone goal off an assist from Joshua Mora.

Southwest will next play at 7 p.m. Dec. 28 against its alumni.
