CALEXICO — For the second time this year the Calexico Elks Lodge hosted a luncheon for some of the Calexico Unified School District's special education students.
Luis Cota, an Elk, said members of the lodge think it is important to put on special events for the disabled students because they are sometimes ignored.
"We don't want that to happen," he said.
The kids dined on turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes and then sang Christmas carols.
Cota said normally the lodge has put together gift baskets during the holiday season. This year the lodge decided to concentrate on helping the kids to make sure donations were going to a worthy cause.
"Handicapped children is our bag. That's who we work for," Cota said.
