>>50 years ago — Although skies may be cloudy, the Imperial Valley will not have a wet Christmas. Weather forecaster William Allen said today there may be "a few sprinkles," but a general rain is not expected.

>>40 years ago — Dorothy Gunning, organist and member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church junior choir, performed Wednesday night before the pediatric ward of El Centro Community Hospital. The junior choir sang at the hospital as part of its annual Christmas carol program.

>>30 years ago — A new garbage and rubbish rate schedule incorporating a 25 percent increase was approved Wednesday night by the El Centro City Council. The rate hike was approved by the council last week to finance the cost of converting the present city dump northeast of Imperial to cut-and-fill disposal procedures to comply with a rubbish-burning ban ordered by the state effective Jan. 1.

>>20 years ago — Imperial Valley College closed the first half of the 1981-82 community college basketball season with a 65-63 victory over San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday night. The Arabs will return to action in January following the holiday break. Coach Jeff Deyo and his players conclude the first half of the season with a 10-5 record.
