Bulldog girls take second at tourney

EL CAJON — The Calexico High girls basketball team wrapped up play in the Granite Hills tournament here Saturday with a 53-47 loss to Pacific Hills in the championship game.

Leading Calexico in the loss were Lizeth Lopez with 16 points and Lupe Escobar with 11.

On Friday, the Bulldogs edged host team Granite Hills 51-50 to advance to the final.

Calexico will next play at Brawley Union High at 7 p.m. Jan. 11.

Montgomery Invitational

SAN DIEGO — The Southwest High girls basketball team took third place in the Montgomery Invitational with a 44-34 win over South Mountain High of Phoenix here Saturday.

Ericka Antunez finished with 18 points and was named to the all-tournament team. Jessica Conway added 13 points and eight rebounds and Tasha Ernest chipped in 10 rebounds. P.J. Enders finished with seven rebounds for the Eagles.


On Friday, Southwest downed Hilltop High 53-48

Antunez finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Southwest. Also contributing in the victory were Ernest with 14 rebounds, Enders with 13 rebounds and Denice Rios with nine points.

Also on Friday, Brawley Union High defeated Madison High 49-22. Sophomore Whitney Williams led the team with 13 points, including three three-pointers.

The Wildcats will next play at Kofa High in Yuma at 6 p.m. Jan. 9.
