Brawley downs Southwest at Montgomery

SAN DIEGO — The Brawley Union High boys basketball team wrapped up play in the Montgomery tournament with a 53-32 win over Southwest High School here Saturday.

Leading Brawley in the victory were Lafayette Lofton with 11 points, Raul Hernandez and Mark Rivera with 10 points each.

Southwest will next host Cibola High of Yuma at 7 p.m. Saturday.

On Friday, Lafayette Lofton scored 30 points to lead Brawley past Hoover High 69-65 in overtime.

Mark Rivera scored 15 for Brawley.

The Wildcats will host Palm Desert at 7 p.m. Friday.

Granite Hills tournament

EL CAJON — The Calexico High boys basketball team narrowly got past Sweetwater High 59-56 in Granite Hills tournament action here Friday.


Leading Calexico were Adrian Maldonado with 24 points and Alex Marin with 19.

In other tournament action Friday, Central Union High dropped to 0-12 for the season with a 72-63 loss to host team Granite Hills.

Vincent McSee scored 16 for Central and Jarrell Henderson added 12 points.

Central will next host Cibola High of Yuma at 7 p.m. Friday. Calexico will host Calipatria at 7 p.m. Jan. 8.

Coronado Invitational

CORONADO — The Holtville High boys basketball team wrapped up play in the Coronado Invitational here Saturday with a 42-34 win over Julian.

Leading Holtville were Jon Singh and Eric Cueto with 12 points each. Andres Quesada chipped in 11 points for the Vikings.

Earlier on Saturday, Holtville lost to San Dieguito Academy 48-31.

On Friday, Holtville lost a heart-breaker to Marian Catholic 61-57.

Holtville will next host Crawford High at 7 p.m. Jan. 8.
