IMPERIAL — A vehicle accident took the life of an Imperial High School junior and injured three other youth late Friday west of here.
Kyla Alsip, 16, died of major blunt trauma to the neck, according to county Sheriff's Coroner Investigator Deputy Gary Hayes.
The names of the other three passengers were not released by officials investigating the accident.
According to a statement by the California Highway Patrol, a four-passenger pickup driven by a 15-year-old male of El Centro was traveling at about 55 mph around 10:30 p.m. Friday when it ran off the right side of Wheeler Road.
The driver overcorrected, causing the pickup to roll four times, the Highway Patrol report states.
According to the report, Kyla was riding in the front passenger seat and was wearing a seat belt.
County Coroner Investigator Deputy Rick Williams said she died immediately from her injuries.
Two passengers in the truck's rear seat were ejected. A 12-year-old male passenger received major injuries and an 11-year-old male passenger received moderate injuries, according to the Highway Patrol.
