Voice: Those who supported farmers on issues could end up paying

December 30, 2001

If the issue of "whose water is it anyway" ever goes to court, maybe the landowners/farmers will win. Then the laugh will be on those Imperial Valley folks who don't farm but paid for the construction of the All-American Canal. Also on those who supported the landowners/growers in the 160-acre limitation controversy and for taking the side of the farmers over the workers' struggle to unionize. This newspaper, too!

Now the "good ole boys" want you to pay for the cement-lining of canals so they can sell more water to Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego counties.

My wife and I can pack our few belongings in a U-Haul rental and be gone from this "Valley of Fairness" in 48 hours. It's you homeowners and business owners who have feared and patronized the farmers over the years who will be hurting the most.

Ya'll come to the Imperial Irrigation District meetings; hear. Stella, you go girl!
