Voice: Why doesn't Maruca address field burning first?

December 31, 2001

Lately I have been reading about Supervisor Joe Maruca being very concerned about the air pollution that the power plants in Mexicali will produce and that it will affect the quality of the air in the Imperial Valley.

Well, I am also concerned about the air I breathe, but my concerns are with our side of the border. The burning of the fields is also causing a lot of air pollution in the Valley. As I write this letter Dec. 27 the smell of the burned fields is bad and making me sick and I have not read anything of Supervisor Maruca trying to stop that.

If we are really concerned with the air quality in the Imperial Valley, then we need to take care of our own house before we attack somebody else's.
