>>50 years ago — A three-day legislative meeting to take testimony on farm and water problems is set for El Centro this month. State Sen. Ben Hulse said the interim legislative committee on water resources will conduct hearings in the County Courthouse on Jan. 28, 29 and 30.

>>40 years ago — The Brawley squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will hold a fly-in picnic at the air strip at Ogilby, 50 miles east of Brawley, on Sunday. Those interested in attending are asked to contact LeRoy Jones or Ken Bemis.

>>30 years ago — The California Highway Patrol reported a relatively quiet holiday weekend, arresting nine drunken drivers and investigating a handful of auto mishaps, with only one resulting in extensive injuries. Highway Patrol officers also arrested three illegal aliens on suspicion of auto theft and four Yuma youths on suspicion of possessing marijuana.

>>20 years ago — A western winter storm watch is bringing a 50 percent chance of at least a quarter-inch of rain to the Imperial Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday. Today had the first frost of the year, with lettuce ice until late this morning. Lows ranged from 28 to 31 degrees.
