While the desert setting of Imperial Valley doesn't exactly conjure up visions of graceful Southern mansions and women in voluminous ball gowns, an event Jan. 12 at Pioneers' Museum may be just the ticket for all those hankering to be Rhett or Scarlet for just a night.
Publicized as an "educational historical costume ball," the event is sponsored by the Star Route/Family 4-H 2001 citizenship focus group and all proceeds will go to Pioneers' Museum.
Dance caller Tom Atkins will instruct all comers in the gentle art of dancing from various periods of American history, with a special emphasis on Civil War era dances.
Event coordinator Mary Ann Smith says the ball will be a family event with all age groups welcome to join.
The museum is across from Imperial Valley College on East Aten Road in Imperial and the ball will run from 6-11 p.m.
