CALEXICO — A Santa Maria man wanted by the U.S. Border Patrol was nabbed instead by the Calexico Police Department after he allegedly slapped a woman.
Calexico police Sgt. Armando Marquez said the 27-year-old man, Carlos Morales, got into the altercation around 8 p.m. Friday at the 111 Bar on Imperial Avenue.
The woman said she "saw lights" after she was struck, according to Marquez.
Morales was booked into county jail. His bail was set at $25,000.
Marquez said if Morales posts bail the Border Patrol will pick him up on an immigration violation.
