Several hurt in three accidents over weekend

Three automobile incidents keep California Highway Patrol officers busy over the weekend.

A Highway Patrol press release states Maribel Quintanar, 37, and Roxanna Q. Perez, 19, both of El Centro, were riding a quad motorcycle about 5 p.m. Sunday and heading south in the open desert west of Heber Dunes Road and south of Heber Road at a high rate of speed. Quintanar then saw a parked motorcycle in her path and steered to the right to avoid striking it.

However, the parked motorcycle had a pull trailer attached to it and Quintanar collided with the trailer.

Quintanar and Perez were ejected from the motorcycle and sustained major injuries. They were taken to the El Centro Regional Medical Center.

Information on their condition was unavailable this morning.

In a separate incident, John Kirby, 56, of Marina was traveling east on Interstate 8 just west of Mountain Springs Road about 10:50 p.m. Sunday when he allowed his vehicle to run off the left shoulder of the road and onto a raised embankment.

Kirby's vehicle overturned onto its roof. Kirby suffered major facial injuries. He was taken to El Centro Regional before being airlifted to a hospital in San Diego.

Kirby was wearing his seat belt when the accident occurred. Information on his condition was unavailable this morning. The accident is still under investigation.

In a third incident, Jesus G. Nuñez, 51, of Imperial was heading south on Barbara Worth Road in a tractor-trailer hay rig around 10:48 p.m. Saturday as Raul Alaniz, 34, of Holtville was also heading south on Barbara Worth Road just behind Nuñez in a pickup.

Alaniz attempted to pass Nuñez's vehicle. Nuñez then made a left turn onto a dirt road. and Alaniz's truck collided with the left side of Nuñez's rig.

Nuñez was ejected from his vehicle and suffered moderate injuries. He was taken to El Centro Regional.

Alaniz was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

The accident is still under investigation. Information on Nuñez's condition was unavailable this morning.
