Voice: A small fee, some tough punishment might help at dunes.

January 08, 2002

I have been reading all the stories about Glamis in the paper, although we do not go there due to the lack of common sense of a few who do. We prefer Superstition and Truck Haven. I suggest that there be a fee charged. By charging a mere $5 per person a half-million dollars would be raised if only 100,000 people utlized the area.

This fee should not be just for Glamis, but all Bureau of Land Management land and not just on holidays. I am sure that someone would take it to court, saying their rights are being violated, but what about the rights of those that go to Glamis who are law-abiding? I think those people's rights are violated by those who think it is a free-for-all and can break the law.

With this money it would help to offset the cost for security, garbage collection and improvements.

For those who want to act like idiots and endanger others, they should be banned from utilizing BLM land for a period of one year for each offense. Once people see that the state, county and BLM are serious about restoring the law, then maybe we might make it through a holiday with a little less people getting hurt.
