>>50 years ago — The Imperial High School basketball team took off with a flying start in the 1952 campaign in the Imperial Valley race by slashing Holtville easily 39-25.

>>40 years ago — Dairy farmers of the nation and in California are backing the program for national physical fitness as outlined by President Kennedy. A late report issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows why milk and milk products rank high as physical fitness foods.

>>30 years ago — The Westmorland City Council threw a big monkey wrench in Imperial County's plans for early implementation of a joint waste disposal landfill plan. The proposal earlier received formal approval for Calexico, Brawley, Calipatria, Holtville and Imperial.

>>20 years ago — Socorro Juarez of Calexico was happy Thursday. And with a good reason. In less than 30 minutes Thursday some 80 needy families got 5 pounds of cheese each at Juarez's home at 661 McKinley St., which was one of Campesinos Unidos' distribution points. Campesinos Unidos distributed 6,600 pounds of cheese in Brawley and Calexico.
