El Centro police arrested a 50-year-old transient after the failed armed robbery of an 18-year-old woman and a 5-year-old girl in a car parked in the parking lot of a donut shop.

El Centro police Lt. Tim Blankenship said a man walked up to two people sitting in a parked car in the parking lot of the Donut Palace & Bakery at 1754 S. 4th St. at 7:57 p.m. and attempted to gain access into the car.

The woman and girl, both of El Centro, were waiting for a 17-year-old girl, who had gone into the donut shop. The girl saw the man and went up to him to ask him what he was doing.

Blankenship said the man threatened the 17-year-old girl and then walked off. The girl then called police.

Richard Lee Strawbridge was later arrested by police in connection with the case. He was being held in the county jail with bail set at $20,000.
