Trailer light team earns team of the month at IID

January 12, 2002|STAFF REPORT

Imperial Irrigation District General Manager Jesse Silva and the IID Board of Directors honored the district's pole trailer light kit team as team of the month for January at the board's Jan. 8 meeting.

The team, consisting of safety coordinators, metalsmiths, auto mechanics and power department construction and maintenance personnel, came together to develop, fabricate and put into service a traffic warning device to mark the rear of the district's power poles towed in traffic.

In the past there have been instances of motorists running into power poles as the poles are being towed to job sites. The light bar assemblies provide an added measure of safety to the public and reduce liability exposure for the district.

The assemblies are 24 inches wide and incorporate stoplights, taillights, turn signal lights and clearance lights. The units are considerably more visible than required by the motor vehicle code and what the district has used in the past.

Team members were recognized for their personal initiative and quality workmanship.

"This is another example of how IID employees provide for the public's safety and carry out IID's obligations to our communities," Silva said. "The innovative idea, quality of work performed, willingness to go out of their way to help the district and the community and the way they worked together to accomplish this task is highly commendable."

The team consists of: Ken Barnes, Kyle Bonillas, Jim Brownlee, Joe Castillo, Ronnie Garrie, Manuel Hernandez, Ken Johnson, Rene Moreno, Hector Noriega, Leo Othon, Lupe Rivera, John Romero, Ron Shelton and Don Wright.
