Westmorland RDA to hear about projects

January 15, 2002|By MARIO RENTERÍA, Staff Writer

WESTMORLAND — The City Council, sitting as the city Redevelopment Agency board, will hear reports on a 50-unit motel project and an alcohol and drug-treatment facility for women during a meeting Wednesday.

The RDA meeting is set to start at 6:30 p.m. Mike Gaston of The Holt Group will present reports on the two projects. The Holt Group, of El Centro, provides planning and engineering services to the city.

The 50-unit motel would be built at the intersection of Highway 86 and H Street.

The RDA purchased the property from Brawley resident Clark Seybert for $42,000 and is attempting to sell it to High Spirits LP, owned by Dr. Veerinder Anand of El Centro and Rick Desai of Las Vegas, for $1 as an incentive to develop the motel.

Regarding the drug treatment facility, the RDA board agreed to sell property on the southwest corner of Highway 86 and G Street to Alternative Program Inc. of Bakersfield for $1 as an incentive to develop that facility.

The facility would house 25 women who meet certain criteria, the main one being they cannot be violent offenders.

The women would be referred from drug court programs across the state and possibly from Imperial County and the state Department of Corrections.
