Brawley man shot in back during robbery attempt

January 15, 2002|By MARIO RENTERÍA, Staff Writer

BRAWLEY — An 18-year-old Brawley man was shot by two men during an apparent attempted robbery here Monday evening.

Brawley police Lt. John Myers said Adrian Parga was walking in the east alley of the 400 block of North Cesar Chavez Street about 6:47 p.m. Monday when he was approached by two Hispanic males riding bicycles. The men demanded money from Parga, Myers said.

Parga then ran and one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot Parga in the back.

Parga's injuries were not serious, Myers said. The bullet hit Parga on the side of his back, missing all vital organs.

Parga was treated at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley and released.

Myers said investigators think one of the suspects was bald and had a mustache. A description of the other suspect was not available.

The case is still under investigation.
