BRAWLEY — An autopsy will be performed Saturday on a 22-year-old man who died hours after being treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during a single-car accident, then released.

Jose Luis Ulloa of Brawley was treated and released from Pioneer's Memorial Hospital on Wednesday night after the vehicle he was driving collided with a tree.

A 16-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries in the accident. He was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center.

The accident occurred at the intersection of River Road and 11th Street. Ulloa was driving on River Road and tried to make a turn onto 11th Street but failed to negotiate the turn and his car collided with a tree.

Ulloa was taken to Pioneers shortly after the accident, which occurred at 10:47 p.m. Wednesday.

A Pioneers' spokesman would not comment about Ulloa's injuries.

Ulloa was found unconscious about 3:45 a.m. Thursday in the bathroom of his residence on the 600 block of North 11th Street. Police were unsure of who found Ulloa.

Police and emergency response units tried to resuscitate Ulloa but were unsuccessful.
