Thank You: Thank you to Central science fair judges

January 19, 2002

As educators, we feel it is a shame we are the only ones who have the opportunity to see the results of our students' efforts on school projects and often the only audience for our students' work is the person who assigns a grade for the accomplishment.

Our annual science fair gives the community the opportunity to admire the product of the students' efforts. Without the help of volunteers from the community to judge the student work, it would not be as meaningful for our students.

The Central Union High School staff would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank members of the community who spent the afternoon of Jan. 10 as judges for our annual science fair.

Those who shared their time and expertise in support of our students are: Cydean Gillespie, Mike Woods, Earl Andress, Enrique Lozano, Lt. j.g. Phil Lavalle, Ensign Bob Stiles, Nick DeValle, Aurora Hiles, Jose Carrillo, Phillip Boese, Larry Johnson, Standlee Spencer and Sheri Hart This was an international effort as five members of the educational community from Mexicali offered their expertise also, Profa. Dora Acosta, Profa. Alma S. Hermosillo, Ing. Miguel Gandara, Lic. Maria de Jesus Durazo and Ing. Roberto Estrada.

Those of us who are involved in the science fair experience realize that projects like this often involve many extra hours of work by the students and additional support and encouragement from their parents. Parents are a very important part of any educational process. Thank you for your support and coming to the science fair to see your student's project and their classmates' work. Our students enjoy the opportunity to share their accomplishments with family and friends.

I would also like to thank the teachers who coordinated the event: Dr. Lourdes Rueda-Lizarraga, Regina Enriquez, Lynne Vanderlinden, Janice Zehner and Warren Smith plus former science teacher Dennis Haworth and Instructional Support Facilitator Judy Jacklich, who helped with the judging. On behalf of our students, we thank you all.
