Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight in Hems Bros. Mortuary chapel in El Centro for Paul Gene Harendt, 74, of El Centro, who died Wednesday in his home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

Mr. Harendt was born on May 25, 1928, in Anson, Texas, and attended schools in Anson.

During his high school years, he worked part-time at Webb MFG and went full-time after graduation.

He joined the National Guard while still employed at Webb and was drafted into the Army's engineer force in Marysville on March 28, 1952. He received an honorable discharge on March 29, 1954.

Mr. Harendt worked at Holly Sugar Plant of Brawley in various positions for 35 years. He retired in 1989.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Legion of the Moose San Diego chapter and the American Legion of Holtville. He enjoyed hunting and camping and liked to smoke his pipe and do wood carving for his family, according to family.


Survivors include his wife, Betty Harendt of El Centro; nephew, Gerald Hughes of Holtville; 12 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and great-nephews and some great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
