Corky McMillin makes purchase

The Corky McMillin Cos., of National City, have purchased the assets of the Imperial Valley division of Allen Homes. The purchase, finalized in late December, includes four neighborhoods now selling in Calexico, Imperial and Brawley and three more to open within two years.

The Imperial Valley division is headquartered at 444 S. 8th St., Suite G in El Centro. It has a staff of 16 employees.

Jim Hunter, executive vice president of Corky McMillin, said all Allen employees in the Imperial Valley office have become Corky McMillin employees and retain their current positions. Gil Prestwood remains as division manager.

"This represents a significant move for The Corky McMillin Cos. as this will be our first venture into Imperial County," states Hunter in a press release.


"Now that our foot is in the door, so to speak, we are on the lookout for opportunities to purchase more land in the area."

McMillin Homes, of Corky McMillin Cos., has built more than 10,000 homes in California. Corky McMillin Cos. include McMillin Land Development, which specializes in master-planned, mixed-use communities; McMillin Commercial, a commercial development company; McMillin Realty; and McMillin Mortgage.

Founded in 1960 by Corky McMillin in National City, the organization continues to be run by the McMillin family.

"We plan to increase production of this Imperial Valley division from 70 homes a year to more than 200 homes a year," states Hunter in a press release.

The Corky McMillin purchase includes 33 homes in various stages of construction, four completed model homes and options on more than 1,000 lots at Las Brisis South, Las Brisis North, Las Brisis Tres and El Dorado, all in Calexico; Reflections in Imperial, and Parkside Estates West and Parkside Estates East, both in Brawley. Homes being sold range in size from 1,260 to 1,986 square feet and are priced from $114, 450 to $198,950.
