ECRMC designates two department heads

Appointments to fill two department head vacancies on the staff of El Centro Regional Medical Center have been announced by David Selman, chief executive officer.

Ana Brinkerhoff, a member of the hospital's laboratory staff since 1977, has become the director of the laboratory department and Consuelo Corral, a registered nurse, has been named director of the Diabetes Education and Self-Management Center in El Centro.

Brinkerhoff, who began her association with the hospital as a medical technologist, became lead chemist in 1982 and the labor information systems and point-of-care testing lead in 1999. For the last two years she has served as the chief laboratory technologist.

She earned her bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from Whittier College in 1977 and served her internship at El Centro Regional Medical Center. She earned a master's degree in management from the University of Redlands in 1986 and a master's degree in education and counseling from the University of Redlands in 1992.

She succeeds Charlie Rhoades, who now is the senior director of clinical services.

Corral was transferred to the diabetes center a year ago after four years with Valley Family Care Center in El Centro, another branch of ECRMC.

Corral, who earned her registered nursing degree from Imperial Valley College in 1988, has since earned a bachelor's degree in nursing and her public health nursing certificate from the San Diego campus of the University of Phoenix in February. She plans on taking the state examination to become a certified diabetes educator this year. She also has had experience as a home health nurse and worked for the Valley Convalescent Home in El Centro for three years.
