Voice: How about Paul Rodriguez Boulevard in El Centro?

January 21, 2002

For quite some time now I have been trying to think of a Hispanic person we could honor in the city of El Centro. It would be great to find a dynamic individual who has done a great deal of good for our community and be someone who could inspire our youth as much as a Cesar Chavez.

There are many deserving public servants. What is even more extraordinary is when someone works to benefit our community and they don't even live here. Not just a person but also an international superstar has demonstrated such an interest.

Paul Rodriguez is this awesome man who has taken us into his heart and helped us so much with what I consider a most important job. He has given his talented performances to us, and at no charge, to help our youth center, the El Centro Police Athletic League. He has done so out of the goodness of his heart.

How do we thank and honor him? What could we possible do to show our eternal gratefulness for his generous contributions?

Can I suggest we rename Fourth Street "Paul Rodriguez Boulevard." This way the children and everyone can see that somebody important cares about us. This street runs through the center of this city and it is fitting as Mr. Rodriguez' efforts have touched the heart of this valley, its children.
