The Imperial County Overall Economic Development Commission will be presenting a conference on sustaining growth and business in the Imperial Valley scheduled for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brunner's Restaurant in El Centro.

State Senate Democratic candidate Denise Moreno-Ducheny and county Supervisor Hank Kuiper will be among the speakers.

The county Board of Supervisors has made economic development one of its top priorities.

The third annual conference will focus on the best practices for economic development and smart growth in rural areas. Conference speakers will discuss local efforts to attract, grow and keep businesses in the Valley.

"We expect about 80 to 100 attendees," commission chairwoman Kimberly Collins said.

The commission's main objective is getting businesspeople together to share their ideas, Collins said.

The cost to attend is $35, which includes breakfast, lunch and conference materials.
