I feel like I just stepped into Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine or a time warp or something. Surfing out to the I.V. Press online, I see that El Centro's current mayor is talking about the possibility of an I-8 overpass at Imperial Avenue.
When I was a young reporter on the Imperial Valley Press, 22 years ago (and I covered city government, by the way) one of the most hotly contested political issues in town was … a possible I-8 overpass at Imperial Avenue.
Four presidential administrations later, this is STILL being argued? As the French say, "Plus ca change, plus ca meme-chose."
(If somebody tells me some of the same characters are still making phone calls trying to get this thing killed, I'll pack my bags and check into the Twilight Zone.)
