BRAWLEY — A 16-year-old male was arrested by police for robbing a gas station with what appeared to be a .22 caliber rifle but turned out to be a pellet gun.

Brawley police Lt. John Myers said the youth walked into the C&C Gas station on the corner of Highway 111 and Highway 78 about 12:30 a.m. carrying a rifle and demanded money.

The robber ran south on Highway 111 with about $255.

Myers said an on-duty police officer was on his dinner break in his nearby residence. After hearing about the robbery, the officer caught the juvenile after a short foot pursuit.

Myers said the youth was arrested for armed robbery. He was being held in juvenile hall today.

Myers added police will seek prosecution against the juvenile for armed robbery.
