NILAND — California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal single-car traffic accident here that claimed the life of a 37-year-old Niland woman.

Highway Patrol Officer Hector Tabarez said the accident occurred about 9 a.m. Monday on Beal Road east of Cuff Road.

County Deputy Coroner Rick Williams said the woman killed in the accident was Donna Menasco Angus of Niland.

Tabarez said Angus was traveling at a high rate of speed east on Beal Road when she hit a dip in the road, which caused her vehicle to go airborne.

After her vehicle landed it spun sideways and struck a power pole.

Tabarez was not sure which side of the vehicle hit the power pole. He said Angus was not wearing her seat belt.

Williams said an autopsy will be performed today to determine the cause of death.
