Calipatria council approves highway improvement deal

CALIPATRIA — The City Council here approved a cooperative agreement between the city and state Department of Transportation for beautification and improvements along highways 111 and 115.

The resolution states the city agrees to provide all necessary preliminary engineering, including plans, specifications, utility identification and all necessary construction and engineering services for the project.

The agreement between the state and the city was approved and Mayor Fred Beltran was authorized to sign the agreement on behalf of the city.

In other city business, the council approved a resolution that allows the city to use Community Development Block Grant income reuse plan funds for community facilities.

The CDBG program grants loans to low-income households for repairs or improvements of homes. The program also makes loans to businesses for job creation and job retention.

The money is repaid by individuals who receive the loan and is later reused.

The resolution allows CDBG funds to be used for the rehabilitation and improvements to facilities such as park shelters, library improvements and more.
