Thanks: Top Alzheimer's Association walker gives plaudits

January 23, 2002

On Dec. 2 the fourth annual Memory Walk for the Alzheimer's Association took place as part of the El Centro Christmas parade. I took first place in the "individual" category for the most money raised ($900).

This would not have been possible if not for the generous donations from the following; employees at the Calexico Port of Entry of the following departments: the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, U.S. Customs Service, U.S Department of Agriculture, the General Services Administration and security.

Other business: Blackman Paging, Taxes Unlimited, Perfect 10 Nail Salon (Leti Canteen), Mac Gonzalez Farmers Insurance, Desert Rose Realty (Leti Baker), IKON Office Solutions (Kirk Marler), Imperial County Behavioral Health (fiscal department), I.C. Alcohol & Drug Programs (Warren Sherlock), I.C. Auditor-Controller Office (Shelly Smail), I.C. Health Department TB control (Sharon and Shirley), I.C. Area Agency on Aging (Laura Monge).

Also my sons, 2-year-old Fernando and 5-year-old Alfonso who also walked, would like to thank their godmothers, Andrea Cecena-Silva and Lourdes Arce, for sponsoring them.

On behalf of my father, who has this terrible disease, I would like to thank you all for making a difference with your donations in trying to find the cure for this horrible disease.
