>> 50 years ago — An increase of 1 cent a quart was ordered paid to milk producers in Imperial County by the state Bureau of Milk Control effective Feb. 1. The bureau said it took the action because testimony at public hearing showed feed costs alone were up 20 percent.

>> 40 years ago — Attacks on fire conditions at the Barbara Worth Hotel by a state official "were extremely derogatory and in most instances untrue," a hotel official charged. The state official said the hotel lacked sprinklers and an alarm system and that some hoses were so old they likely would not stand 75 pounds of water pressure.

>> 30 years ago — Fourteen warning citations have been issued to various Valley businesses and industries by county air pollution officers responding to regulations that went into effect Jan. 1. Fred Singh, county environmental quality control officer, said his office, "while policing the area, is trying to work with industry."

>> 20 years ago — John DePaoli, president of Imperial Valley College, will discuss the past, present and possible future of the college at Tuesday's meeting of the Imperial Valley chapter of Phi Delta Kappa at the Cameo Buffet in El Centro. The meeting will follow the PDK initiation of new members at 5 p.m. in the Imperial Unified School District boardroom.
