WESTMORLAND — Four people suffered minor to moderate injuries Saturday when two vehicles collided west of here where Highway 86 intersects with Highway 78.

The accident occurred at 11:10 a.m. as a sport-utility vehicle driven by Elmer Herbaly, 80, of Littleton, Colo., attempted to make a left from northbound 86 onto 78.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Herbaly apparently did not see another vehicle, a car driven by Estela Zamorez, 30, of Palm Desert, heading south on 86.

Herbarly reportedly turned into the path of Zamorez's car and the vehicles collided.

While Herbaly was not injured, a passenger in his SUV, Lorna Herbaly, 77, also of Littleton, suffered minor injuries.

Zamorez also suffered minor injuries. Two other passengers in her vehicle, both of Palm Desert, also were hurt.

Esther Zamorez, 30, suffered moderate injuries. Mary Zamorez, 66, suffered minor injuries.

There was no report on where the victims were hospitalized.

All those involved in the collision were wearing seat belts.

The collision remained under investigation.
