Behind a 15-point effort from Stephanie Schuler, the Central Union High girls basketball team improved to 3-2 in the Imperial Valley League with a 40-24 win over Calexico in El Centro on Friday.

Janiece Manuel added eight points for Central.

Erika Beltran and Karla Salazar each scored 10 points for Calexico (2-2 IVL).

Both teams will host games at 7 p.m. Tuesday with Central taking on La Quinta and Calexico playing Palo Verde.

Boys basketball

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High boys basketball team remained undefeated in Imperial Valley League play with a 63-31 victory over Southwest here Friday.

Mark Rivera scored 24 points to lead Brawley, followed by Lafayette Lofton with 13.

Jesse Hoyt led Southwest with 14, followed by Devon Hood with seven.

Both teams will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday with Brawley (5-0 IVL) hosting Imperial and Southwest (2-2) playing at Holtville.

Calexico 76, Central 61


CALEXICO — The Calexico High boys basketball team handed Central Union High its 20th loss of the season with a 76-61 Imperial Valley League win here Friday.

Adrian Maldonado recorded a double-double with 27 points and 16 rebounds for Calexico, followed by Chris Ramsey with 23 points.

Both teams will play on the road at 7 p.m. Tuesday with Calexico (3-1 IVL) playing at Palo Verde and Central (0-5 IVL) playing at La Quinta.

Calipatria 65, Imperial 57

IMPERIAL — Ezequiel Navarro scored 27 points to lead the Calipatria High boys basketball team to a 65-57 Desert Mountain League win over Imperial High here Friday.

Vontray Taylor added 16 points for Calipatria (4-1 league).

Leading Imperial (2-2) were Danny Jones with 24 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks, Matt Taylor with 18 points, five assists and two steals and Cesar Ramos with nine points.

Calipatria will host Holtville at 7 p.m. Friday.

BORREGO SPRINGS — Despite a double-double from Dominic Jacobelli the Vincent Memorial High boys basketball team fell 71-55 to Borrego Springs in Citrus League action here Friday.

Jacobelli finished with 25 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three blocks for Vincent Memorial (1-2 CL). Matt Lankford added 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals and Juan Padilla chipped in seven points and five rebounds for the Scots.

Vincent Memorial will next host West Shores at 7 p.m. Monday.

Boys Soccer

The Southwest High boys soccer team only needed one goal by Sergio Rosales to remain undefeated in the Imperial Valley League as it downed Brawley 1-0 in El Centro on Friday.

Luis Montes accounted for the assist and Ivan Ochoa pinned the shutout for Southwest (4-0 IVL).

Brawley (2-2 IVL) will host Holtville at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Southwest will host Holtville at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Girls soccer

BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High girls soccer team improved to 3-4 in the Imperial Valley League with a 1-0 win over Southwest here Friday.

Maria Sarmiento scored Brawley's goal off an assist from Melissa Carrillo.

Brawley will next play at Holtville at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Southwest (3-4) will host Imperial at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
