Voice: Afghan detainees being treated better than Vietnamese refugees

January 28, 2002

I agree strongly with your opinion regarding the care of the Afghan detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I have been at GITMO over the years, as I have been in the Philippine Islands, when and where Vietnamese refugees were initially cared for by our military in 1975 and beyond.

I submit that the Afghans are likely receiving equal if not better care than the Vietnamese refugees. Worse would be to place them at the old jail site in the Superstitions near the bombing range in Imperial County in the summer. I remember that while at Naval Air Facility El Centro. Now that would be truly inhumane.

What do you think, Bret?
