4-car wreck on Highway 111

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a four-car chain of accidents on Evan Hewes Highway west of Highway 111 in the El Centro area.

A press release from the CHP stated Norma Bowerman, 61, of Holtville was eastbound on Evan Hewes highway and stopped as she waited for the traffic light at Highway 111 to change.

A 17-year-old male from El Centro also was headed east and failed to see the stopped traffic in front of him. The juvenile's vehicle collided with the back of Bowerman's vehicle.

After Bowerman and the juvenile exited their vehicles, another car driven by Nellie Villaseñor, 79, of Holtville collided with the back of the juvenile's vehicle. Villaseñor was trapped in the drivers seat.

After CHP officers arrived and began traffic control, another vehicle, driven by Hector Gerardo, 21, of El Centro, collided with the back of Villaseñor's vehicle.

The juvenile and Villaseñor sustained minor injuries and were treated at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley. Bowerman sustained moderate injuries that were treated at PMH. Gerardo sustained no injuries.

All four drivers were wearing seat belts.
