SIT arrests E.C. couple for drugs

January 29, 2002|By DARREN SIMON, Staff Writer

The Imperial Valley Street Interdiction Team arrested an El Centro couple Monday for allegedly possessing marijuana and methamphetamine for sales.

Charles Huggins, 51, and his wife, Lynn, 37, were booked into the county jail, with bail set for each at $25,000.

The arrests came following an SIT investigation, stated Tony Lain, commander of the unit, which is a multi-agency task force assembled to stop drug dealing at the street level.

"This investigation was started when the SIT unit received a citizen complaint that Charles Huggins was selling illegal drugs from a motel room," Lain stated in the press release.

The 7 a.m. arrest occurred at a hotel in the 1000 block of Adams Avenue and followed an investigation in which SIT unit agents conducted surveillance on the Huggins couple and obtained a search warrant.

Along with the warrant from this case, the Huggins had felony warrants for their arrests connected to previous narcotic investigations, Lain stated.

Agents recovered a "moderate" amount of packaged methamphetamine and marijuana and drug paraphernalia from the motel room.

Lain stated the arrests were made with the assistance of the El Centro Police Department.
